Listeners, supporters, and friends across Wanneroo, Joondalup, and Stirling — we want to share an important update about what’s happening behind the scenes at 89 7FM.

Over the past two weeks especially, you may have noticed interruptions to music, missing announcements, silence between programs, or unusual gaps in our schedule. We want to be completely transparent:

Our main broadcast server — the core system that keeps 89 7FM running — has crashed and is failing beyond repair.

This failure has had a major impact on our ability to:

• play music reliably
• run scheduled programs
• support our sponsors
• deliver community announcements
• broadcast multicultural and local content
• keep our volunteers’ shows on air

We’re currently operating on temporary systems, but they simply cannot replace a fully functioning broadcast server.

What We Know

• The broadcast server has suffered a critical hardware failure.
• It cannot be restored or rebuilt to full function.
• The instability is causing dropouts, silence, missing shows, and reduced sponsor messaging.
• We urgently need a new, professionally installed and configured broadcast server.
• The total cost — including hardware, installation, configuration, and migration — is expected to be around $15,000.
• This upgrade is essential to restore reliable broadcasting.
• Thanks to you, our listeners, supporters and volunteers, we have raised the funds needed to purchase the much needed equipment.
• Works are expected to start on the week commencing 21st September.

What We Don’t Yet Know

• How long our temporary workaround will hold.
• Whether additional systems will need replacing once the new server is installed.
• How quickly we can return to full reliability after the upgrade.
