Wear it Purple was founded in 2010 in response to young people taking their own lives as a result of bullying and harassment from the lack of acceptance of their sexuality or gender identity.
Although hopeful inroads are made each year, research is still damning with 75 per cent of LGBTIQA+ youth experiencing some form of discrimination, including verbal abuse and physical bullying resulting in tragically high rates of depression.
On Friday 30 August, everyone is encouraged to wear purple – whether you’re at work, home or out and about in the community. You can even host a morning tea, raise money through donations or attend an event like the one below!
