As the New Year passes over into 2023, we’d like to thank again all our members, listeners and sponsors for their continued support of our community station.
2022 in review
2022 has brought with it many changes and a thankful easing of covid restrictions to our state, allowing for much work and improvements to happen. We had many new members join and the station has been a growing hive of activity.
Despite restrictions in the beginning of the year, we were able to attend 8 events for Outside Broadcasts to provide entertainment to the community. Yanchep for Australia Day, One Day Cricket Final, Yanchep Symphony Under The Stars, ECU Open Days at both Joondalup and Mount Lawley Campus’, Kingsley Football Club Bali Memorial, Wanneroo Multicultural Festival, and Joondalup Motor Festival. Full details of events can be found on a new News Archive Page, by clicking this link.
We saw 3 of our younger members find jobs in radio and journalism, and so have finished up their shows with the station. Following on from this fantastic achievement for our younger members, 4 of our long standing members were nominated for awards categories in the Community Radio Awards 2022 with 3 reaching finalist stage!
Once again, a variety of our shows hosted a fantastic array of interviews from local musicians, sports clubs, organisations and businesses, and some government staff. We continue to supply our weekly station newsletter with as many of these interviews and local events that we can and every week. And aim to promote and broadcast worthy social causes and topics.
Our music focused shows played a variety of genres and styles, if you’re not sure which feature shows play what, head on over to the Show Guide. A stand out is two shows which feature WA music and have live performances over air. We are happy that the station provides a platform for different cultures to also broadcast their music and language, and this continued through 2022 with Persian, Bhutanese and Latin shows continuing to air.
We now have new Governance Board Members and Chair Steve Willis, who are planning to make many changes and improvements for continued growth into 2023.
Our members attended many training and social events throughout the year, ending with a Christmas Awards Night, where special recognition was given to our tirelessly devoted Station Manager Betty Maass and Volunteer IT Manager Anna Italiano. Without their dedication, the station would simply not have been able to function and everyone is grateful for the time they chose to give. Previous Board Chair and voice of Wednesday’s Morning Show, Sue Myc, was awarded a Life Membership to 89 7fm in recognition of her passion and devotion the station and its members.
Thank you to the many businesses that have supported our station through out the year. Puffin Donuts Joondalup, John Hughes Wangara, Xceed Real Estate, The Gravity Centre, Kapture Photography, Castle Security, Delta Psychology, Wanneroo Markets, You Plate It, Swift Demolition, Off The Wall Promotions, TV-Ten, Tech Steel, Manhatten Chic Boutique, Mad Man Motors, Perth Darts Centre, Let’s Get Married Perth, Funeral Care, Harvey Norman Flooring.
Special mention to our major sponsors, ECU, Community Broadcasting Association of Australia, Community Media and Training Organisation, Community Broadcasting Foundation and Lotterywest for their continued support.
We successfully renewed our Permanent Broadcasting Licence in 2022, and are set to continue our services to the public into 2023 and beyond!
