National Reconciliation Week, 27 May – 3 June, is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.
The City of Wanneroo have curated some free activities to celebrate the week, held at the Wanneroo Regional Museum, Wanneroo Library and Cultural Centre.
Museum Activities | May 27-June 3 | Monday-Friday 10am-4pm, Saturday 12-4pm
Bring artworks to life with themed colouring activities or spend some mindful moments on jigsaw puzzles. For younger visitors, there’s a special collection of books and toys to play with and learn from.
Make sure you also stop by the ‘My Reconciliation Dream for Australia’ station, where you can share your aspirations for a more inclusive and harmonious future.
It’s All About the Past | Wednesday 29 May | 10am-12pm
Head along to a self-guided program for little koolangkas (kids). There will be thoughtful, themed and age-appropriate crafts, colouring and activities so little ones can take part in this important week.
Activities are best suited to 2–5-year-olds with guidance from their grown up.
WAnjoo concert with Gina and Guy | Friday 31 May | 6:30pm to 8pm
Gina Williams and Guy Ghouse perform in a one-off concert, where you can immerse yourself in the rich cultural heritage of Noongar music and singing. Noongar language is critically endangered, with only a few speakers left, so don’t miss this unique opportunity.
Performing with the all-important blessings of Gina’s elders and her community, this duo will leave you breathless!
