New show: Country Roads with Steve Willis

You may have noticed a country tune at 89.7FM with our new announcer, Steve Willis. His show, Country Roads is a celebration of all things country and bluegrass. Steve is excited to create a relaxing environment where he shares all the music he loves.

Even though he isn’t even 50, Steve has retired from a demanding life as CEO, board member and business manager of several organisations, and is eager to pursue his passions in music. While searching for positions on Volunteer WA, he discovered 89.7FM. Steve was surprised to discover a local radio channel so close to him, and he was eager to jump into the new role.

“I have a lot of experience with public speaking due to my previous roles, so that didn’t worry me. The difficult part was having to learn what all the different buttons do,” said Steve.

He has built up his skills and confidence by learning, and by even acting as a stand-in for other presenters. When his show made its debut in mid-September, Steve was ready.

While planning his show, Steve drew on his love of country and bluegrass for inspiration. He now gets to share the music, especially that from the 70s to 90s, that he loves. While Steve doesn’t have a favourite song, he has to admit he has a special spot for John Denver. It isn’t surprising that his interest in John Denver may have influenced the name of his show.

Steve has also been able to bring his previous business experience to help 89.7FM grow behind the scenes. We are excited to add him to our family and we cannot wait to see where he goes.

Make sure you tune into 89.7FM on Sunday between 10 am and 12noon for a relaxing take on country and bluegrass music with Steve Willis.
